Let me introduce myself to you. I’m Charlene and I’m here to help you escape the emotional pain of an unsatisfying job. But not just escape, I lead you to where you can do the things you really enjoy doing and have the income to do it. I am a woman who sees people not only as they are but what they can become. To anyone that will let me, I shatter the limitations, doubt and indecision and fears that are holding them back.

After graduating with my MBA I thought I would be set to have the rewarding, satisfying career and life I worked hard to achieve. This is what they told me. Work hard, go to school, position yourself for success. They never said the other things that come along with it. Missing out on my boys, more work, less play.  Maybe I had gone to school for the wrong thing. Oh no what was I going to do?

More responsibility, the needs of my family and misplaced priorities were pushing me into a corner to hide. I started messing up simple tasks at work, my stomach was tied in knots at the thought of going to work on Monday and I would just daydream while performing simple tasks. How could this be, I had spent over 15 years in Health Care. I loved helping people. Isn’t helping people a noble aspiration? There had to be more than this.  I was really lost, confused and disillusioned.

After nearly 20 years in healthcare, I realized the patient was no longer at the center of my day, my career. I was spending more time trying to figure out why people were unhappy with their jobs. Then I realized I wasn’t happy with my job. This prompted me to think: What do I want to be when I grow up? Doing this process of self evaluation I realized it wasn’t what I wanted to be but what I wanted to do.

It was time for me to change careers. To do my career calling and follow my passions. I realized I felt at home helping others turn their dreams into reality by finding and creating work they love. I was afraid that doing work that helped others and fulfilled my purpose was not going to pay the bills. I thought should I really get paid for helping people lead more satisfying, healthier lives? I discovered that successful people have multiple streams of income. They don’t rely on one source of income. This was different to what I was used to because I had a job and I was used to the idea of working X number of hours for Y number of dollars.

Charlene, thank you for coaching me. I found our sessions to be beneficial in more than one way. You helped me uncover my fears which allowed me to take immediate action by helping me develop a do-able plan. In that plan, I see the benefits of making the time to grow my business even when I thought I did not have the time and I am making plans to deliver my first online class. The biggest adjustment I had to make was placing value on results. At my old job, there was little value on my results, opinions or ideas. I learned the art of identifying income opportunities. As if the Universe had given me the answer I needed, I stumbled across a copy of Listen To Your life by Valorie Burton and I listened.

A defining moment for me came when I realized I don’t choose my passions, they choose me. I only needed to make one decision: do I follow my passions or do I stay in a situation that’s draining me? Once I made the decision to change my life another gift from God presented itself. I had once heard Zig Ziglar say “You can’t do anything about the national economy but you do have control over your personal economy.” Valerie Young’s Changing Course Formula was the answer to helping others do something about their personal economy.

I know many people get ideas about fulfilling their purpose by following their passions but think it’s impossible to make money doing work that challenges, satisfies and completes them. Since then I’ve made it part of my mission to gather the best tools and resources available to make a career change simple for anyone that’s willing to invest in themselves. I figure if I make it as easy as possible you’re more likely to get moving. Am I wrong?

My proudest moment came when I helped a lady who at 65 realized her dream of a career change. It reminded me that it was never too late to be what you want to be. At first I thought I had to quit my job to be really successful. I mean after all, if you’re in business, you’re in business. But my mentor showed me that most people start their journey working nights and weekends building their practice. At first I thought I would be exhausted but the truth is, building my practice consumed me. It was like a positive addiction. The more I worked at it, the more energy I had and I became more focused.

The most important thing to me about my new path was the ability to still have time with my boys. I needed the control over my time and the possibility of blowing the roof off of my earning potential was the biggest incentive to get moving. My mantra is patterned after a Danish philosopher who believed ideas are a hint from God. I am really passionate and committed to helping people follow their natural calling based on what their passions are. If you possess a gift then there’s a need waiting to be filled. Think about it. When you buy a gift for someone you care about, you usually choose something they’ll use or benefit from. Well, the Creator of the Universe has done the same thing for you. For me.

The existence of your gift is proof of a need in the world that is going unfulfilled. Your passion is found when the needs of the world meet your gifts. If you’re going to spend the same amount of time at work as you do sleeping, then it might as well be something you love, something that satisfies and rewards you on a soul level.

I was drawn to Valerie Young’s Changing Course because it answers the question “How do I get started?” Because I want to make this as simple as possible for you which will make it easier on you, I became an Outside The Job Box Career Expert and Small Business Idea Consultant.

In less time than I thought it would take, I started feeling better. Why? I studied with the leaders of the industry like Valerie Young and Valorie Burton. I transferred my experience as an Employee Engagement Specialist and  I reinvented myself as a Career Transition Mentor.

Reading her regular, encouraging posts sparked me to ask her to be my business coach.
With a new business idea, I knew where I wanted to go, but was hesitant about what steps to take.
