[...] Career Change Success in 7 Steps by admin Leave a reply » January 2010, USA Today reported a 45% job satisfaction rate in the USA. Yet for most the thought of changing careers at this time is not an option. To maintain productivity, innovation and creativity, staying in a job where you are disengaged is not an option. Can’t become engaged? Here are seven steps to changing careers successfully no matter the economic climate. Even in tough times, the key to reduced stress is job satisfaction.I am about to share with you the exact steps I took when I made my final career change. I have done everything from Direct TV sales to Director of Women’s Imaging Services. Yet, nothing satisfied me as what I am doing right now. I am of the firm belief that job satisfaction is a gift from God when you are following your unique calling. So if you’ve been thinking about changing careers, here are my best 7 Steps:1. Decide. It is the first step to getting onto Your career path. Changing or finding your career calling begins with the decision to be committed to the process and be willing to do whatever it is you are designed to do. Indecision steals your motivation and sets you up for failure. When you don’t make a firm decision to do the calling (work) you were designed to do, the first sign of resistance you fold. There is a difference between being interested and being committed.2. Take an Inventory. Evaluate your values, transferable skills, interests and talents. Look within and discover what makes you unique and its relevance to your future. Life and work experiences provide clues of your interests and talents. Education reveals your skills and knowledge. Make a comprehensive list of them all, nothing is too small or too big then…3. Research any career that seems interesting or fascinating to you. Perform informational interviews with people who are already doing what you want to do. Internet research is done only when you have specific questions you need an answer to. Without a guided search on the Internet, you’re likely to get overwhelmed because of information overload. Borrow books from the library on the career that captures your heart. If you have a list or feel pulled in several directions, pick one. Doing the research is the only way to determine if it fits you.4. Now you can make an informed decision from your heart. That’s right, not your head, your heart. If you want real peace, real adventure and real fulfillment you make the decision to pursue your calling from your heart. Listen to your inner voice and wait for the answer. Ask yourself these questions: Is there peace about the decision? If I was guaranteed success is this what I’d be doing? Does this career decision align with my God given talents an d purpose?5. Avoid Perfection Paralysis. You know what I mean. If you are waiting for everything to be perfect, to feel motivated or inspired before you act on your decision, you’ll never do anything. Waiting for everything to be perfect has a way of stealing momentum from us and keeping us stuck in the lives we despise but are too afraid to do anything else. The end result is paralysis.6. Prepare and Persist. Now you are on your way to making an impact in your world. Does this new area require you to learn new skills or fine tune existing knowledge? In the words of Henry Hartman, “where preparation meets opportunity, success is found.” Be patient as you continue your journey. Don’t cave in at the first glimpse of opposition. In fact, when you encounter an obstacle you are closer to success than you think. Don’t give up!7. Relax. When I began my journey, I took myself too seriously and failed to see the humor in many situations. I was too closely associated with outcomes and results rather than learning from the process and enjoying the ride. This is a journey on a path that drips with abundance, if you spend too much time focused on the potholes, you will miss out on the beautiful scenery. There is no need for you to do this journey alone. Personal growth and satisfaction is accelerated with the assistance of a mentor, companion or coach.By: Charlene Nora About the Author: If you enjoyed this article, I would like to invite you to grab a free copy of my e-book: Dull to Fiery Career in 5 Steps when you visit http://www.worldunboundnow.com.
